My Maternal Grandparents.

Marriage Certificate of Pieter Teunis Bogert and Romkje Tolsma

Today, the 20th December, 1916, , there appeared before me, an official of the civil service of the city of Amsterdam, for the purpose of uniting in marriage, Pieter Teunis Bogert, ship builder, born in the county Papendrecht, residing in Amsterdam, 28 years of age, adult son of Adrianus Bogert, 57 years of age, ship builder, and Volksje  Bakker, 52 years of age, no trade, both residing in Amsterdam, and Romkje Tolsma, no trade, born in Menaldum, county Menaldumadeel, residing in Amsterdam, 24 years of age, adult daughter of Klaas Tolsma, 63 years of age, no trade, residing in in Menaldumadeel and Akkie Boonstra, deceased.

The parents of the bridegroom and the father of the bride agree to the proposed marriage.

This wedding was announced with no hindrance, the 9th of December

The bridegroom declared, with permission of the mother-bride, to acknowledge one child, named Feikje Romkje Tolsma, born heir on the 25th day of 1915; this is the child that the mother already acknowledge as hers with a document dated June, 1915, made before the official of the Civil Service here.

I asked the bridegroom and bride whether they took one another as marriage partners and whether they would undertake to fulfil the obligations of the marriage which are prescribed as belonging to the state of marriage. After they had indicated that they agreed to this, I, in the name of the Law, pronounced that they are. Now united in marriage

As witnesses, the following were present: Leonardus Jacobus Righarts, brother in law of the bride, carpenter, 27 years of age, living here, and Jean Pierre van Raamsdonk, brother in law of the bride 38 years of age, living in Watersgraafsmeer

In accordance with the requirements of the law, this deed was read aloud.

Witnesses:

P.T Bogert

R. Tolsma

V. Bakker

K. Tolsma

L.J. Righarts

J. Van Raamsdonk.

There is another signature I cannot decipher, presumably of the official of the civil service of Amsterdam.

Some of the language seems ambiguous to me, so I hope the translation is OK.

Allan.
