Our family lived in this house in Orono, Ontario, in the mid 1950's. It was a huge place, I remember it being drafty and cold in the winter time. The only heat we had was the wood stove in the kitchen, and an oil stove we used mostly on Sundays. It had no running water, and thus the toilet facilities were limited, to say the least. We had to go across the street to get water from a well. Originally the house served as a drug store. Now it has been divided into three dwelling units. Across the street, just down the hill is the Orono park, with a swimming pool. Dad worked at the local bakery,
and when he got a job in Oshawa, we moved to Bowmanville. I think our parents chose Bowmanville because mom had been hired to teach at the Christian School there.
